Methodology & Work Plan

The OCEAN project follows an integrated research approach that combines advanced modelling, fatigue analysis, vibration control, and energy harvesting. The work plan is structured into six work packages (WPs), ensuring both scientific depth and practical outcomes.

Work Packages (WPs)

  • WP1 – Project Management: Coordination, monitoring, and reporting.
  • WP2 – Advanced Modelling: Development of high-fidelity CFD and FEM tools for wind–wave–structure interaction.
  • WP3 – Fatigue Assessment: Analysis of fatigue life and reliability under realistic offshore conditions.
  • WP4 – Vibration Control Systems (VCS): Design and optimisation of devices such as Tuned Mass Dampers and KDampers.
  • WP5 – Integrated Design & Energy Harvesting: Integration of VCS with wave energy harvesting into innovative turbine models.
  • WP6 – Dissemination & Open Science: Publications, data, codes, and outreach to academia, industry, and society.

By combining computational modelling, engineering design, and open dissemination, the OCEAN project ensures that its outcomes will be both scientifically rigorous and directly useful to industry.
