Research Team

The OCEAN project is carried out by a multidisciplinary team of researchers and industry partners. Our team combines academic innovation, practical engineering experience, and the training of young scientists to deliver solutions that are both rigorous and applicable.

Andreas Kampitsis

Principal Investigator

Assistant Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an experienced offshore structural engineer specializing in floating offshore wind, structural dynamics, computational mechanics, and digital twin technologies. His career spans academia, research, and industry, with senior engineering roles at Saipem, Imperial College London, NTUA, and the University of Nottingham, where he has led multidisciplinary projects in offshore structures, computational modelling, finite element analysis, and fluid–structure interaction. He has extensive expertise in numerical methods, high-performance computing, and software development, having delivered innovative engineering solutions for both research and industrial applications. His academic achievements include supervising PhD students, securing competitive research funding as Principal Investigator, publishing over 50 scientific papers, and contributing to international conferences and editorial boards, establishing a strong international reputation in structural engineering and offshore renewable energy.

Evangelos Sapountzakis

Collaborating Researcher (Professor)

Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and internal member of the administrative board of NTUA. He served as Vice Rector for Finance, Programming and Development of NTUA (2019-2023), and as Vice Rector for Infrastructure of NTUA (2016-2019). He has extensive experience in conducting numerical research in the fields of earthquake engineering, structural dynamics, and computational mechanics.

Konstantinos Kapasakalis

Collaborating Researcher (Postdoc)

Postdoctoral Researcher at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a background in structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and vibration control systems. He holds a PhD from NTUA (2020), for which the Hellenic Association for Earthquake Engineering awarded him Best PhD Thesis, and was later awarded a Bodossaki Foundation postdoctoral fellowship, conducting research at NTUA and ETH Zürich. He has authored numerous publications in international journals and conferences, and brings this expertise to the OCEAN project’s vibration control and energy harvesting work packages.

Orestis Stavrousis

Collaborating Researcher (PhD candidate)

PhD Candidate at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a background in structural engineering and a specialization in structural dynamics, offshore structures and structural health monitoring. He holds an MSc title from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2026). His doctoral research focuses on the dynamic response, fatigue analysis and monitoring of structural systems, with particular emphasis on offshore structures and the development of advanced computational methodologies. Through his academic and research activities, he contributes to the objectives of the OCEAN project and its related work packages.

Together, the OCEAN team brings the knowledge, experience, and collaboration needed to transform offshore wind energy research into real-world innovation.
