Objectives

The OCEAN project addresses the most critical challenges in floating offshore wind turbines by combining advanced modelling, vibration control, and energy harvesting. Our objectives focus on making FOWTs safer, more efficient, and more cost-effective.

Key Objectives.

  • Investigate the dynamic response of FOWTs under combined wind–wave loading.
  • Develop efficient vibration control systems (VCS) tailored to offshore structures.
  • Design wave energy harvesting systems integrated with the control devices.
  • Perform fatigue analysis to improve structural reliability and service life.
  • Deliver validated computational tools for industry and academia.
  • Propose innovative floating wind turbine concepts that are cost-effective and scalable.

Why It Matters.

Achieving these objectives will extend the lifetime of floating offshore wind turbines, reduce maintenance costs, and provide industry with reliable, ready-to-use design tools. This directly contributes to cleaner energy, reduced costs, and wider adoption of offshore wind technology.
